Mythology & History

In Greek mythology, Canis Major is one of Orion's hunting dogs, faithfully following the great hunter across the sky. Some traditions identify it as Laelaps, the dog that never failed to catch its quarry. The ancient Egyptians associated Sirius with the goddess Isis, and its rising heralded the Nile flood.
